
In a two hour inauguration ceremony at the Fagatogo Pavilion this morning, Lolo Matalasi Moliga and Lemanu Peleti Mauga took their oath of office as governor and lt. governor of American Samoa.

Chief Justice Lealaialoa Michael Kruse administered both oaths.
Holding the Bible for Governor Lolo was First Lady Cynthia Malala Moliga, while the governor’s uncle Moliga, stood by his side.
For Lemanu’s swearing in, his mother, seated on a wheel chair held the Bible, the parents of Lemanu’s late wife, Pohakalani, stood by his side, along with his eldest son.
Rev Elder Mamoe Eveni, Chairman of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, said God has given Lolo and Lemanu a second term to lead the territory and they should look ahead and leave failures of their first four years by the way side.
He also admonished that as leaders they are to serve not be served.
During the spiritual blessing by church ministers of various congregations, the leader of the Catholic Church Bishop Peter Brown gave this prayer.

In his inauguration speech, Governor Lolo thanked the people of American Samoa for their confidence in he and Lemanu to lead the territory for another four years.
He expressed appreciation to Samoa’s Head of State and Masiofo and Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele for attending.
He also thanked Samoa for the Fotu o Samoa’s service, as well as Polynesian Airlines flights to Manu’a.
The governor laid out he and Lt. Governor Lemanu’s five priorities for their second term.
These include improving financial capacity and litting the quality of life for residents. 
He mentioned as an example, the solar energy project in Ta’u, Manu’a which now powers 100% of that island’s electricity.s
The governor said their plan is to have all of Tutuila also powered by solar energy by 2020.
He also mentioned the Territorial Bank of American Samoa, defining a path for the territory’s political status with the United States.
Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga articulated some of the Lolo Lemanu goals.

Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele’s address in Samoan was animated and humorous.
He said Samoa stands on the sidelines looking for scraps from American Samoa’s wealth flowing from the United States, a country that every nation wants to be close to because of its wealth and expertise.
He also touched on speculation about how America would fare under President Donald Trump. But said those centering on the negative are cowards without faith. 
The PM also said that Samoa is keen to strengthen ties with American Samoa and share expertise in several areas including medical education and combatting climate change.
The final part of the inauguration was the ava ceremony performed by Manu’a.
