Tomorrow is the expiration date for calendar year 2016 business licenses.
And just like the norm in previous years, business operators have waited till the last minute to renew their licenses and be legitimate business operators for 2017.
Saeu Porotoseno, Senior Administrative Assistant for the Economic Development Division of the Department of Commerce says about 100 operators came in today to file their business license applications.
After today, a total of 2, 131 had obtained 2017 business licenses.
Porotesano said they were to accept only business license applications from business owners with EIN numbers.
But today the Internal Revenue Service website where applications are logged was not operating due to the holidays.
Porotesano said they accepted business license applications from applicants without EIN Numbers with the intention of obtaining their numbers when IRS is back on normal schedule.
DOC is expecting a bigger crowd of business operators rushing in tomorrow to get their 2017 permits.
Porotesano says those procrastinators should try to come in the morning.
Businesses found to be operating without a valid business license for FY 2017 will be subject to a penalty for each day they don’t have a valid license.
