A couple came close to being shipped out of the territory on last Thursday’s Lady Naomi, without any hearing, had it not been for the intervention of individuals who suspected something was not right.
The woman has claimed that a man whose family she has been staying with since a child, has been molesting her.
KHJ News has received confirmation from Commissioner of Public Safety Save Liuato Tuitele that a woman has filed a complaint against a homeowner she has been staying with for a number of years, alleging that the man has been sexually assaulting her.
The commissioner declined to give details except to say that the complaint alleges sexual crimes against the woman while she was living with the homeowner’s family.
The woman had left the family where she had been living with her husband and a 3-year old child, but last week, immigration authorities showed up and took the couple to the Lady Naomi.
KHJ News understands that the couple’s protestations caught the attention of others who made contact with the American Samoa Legal Aid and a victim’s advocate who were successful in stopping the couple from being sent away last Thursday.
