Not taking information seriously can be as disastrous as the natural disasters that strike us unexpectedly.

Yesterday was the start of the hurricane season and the Department of Homeland Security is getting the word out about the importance of preparedness to protect lives and property.

Outreach coordinator for the Department of Homeland Security Faletoa Ulufale, said the consequences can be deadly if people don’t take the information seriously and don’t prepare for when a disaster strikes.

Ulufale and his team are conducting awareness activities for department directors, local government officials, schools, church organizations c and the private sector.

Ulufale says residents should familiarize themselves with their surroundings especially the areas that are prone to mudslides, and flooding.

Any interested group or organization may request Homeland Security for awareness activities and they are available any day of the week including Sundays.
