Solar City Engineers Praise Ta’u Labor

Engineers from San Francisco-based company Solar City, the contractor for the $8 million Tau Renewable Energy Solar Project in Faleasao, Manu’a that was commissioned yesterday, praised the strong young men from Ta’u who provided labor for the project.

Fifteen were hired to build the project and six will be retained to man the system.

The solar project which includes 1,410 kilowatt of solar photovaltaic panels, 6,000 kilowatt hours of battery storage enough to power all of Tau island for two days , three new 275 kilowatt Cummins diesel generators, and a 480 vault switchgear.

The project cost of $8 million was financed by the ASEDA bond, and Department of Interior.

Benjamin Materna, the project manager said the Ta’u solar system is one of a few of its kind in the world.
