The President of the American Samoa Community College Dr. Seth Galeai is retiring.

Galea’i sent out a letter to ASCC faculty today saying he has learned that one of the signs of an effective leader is to recognize and acquiesce to elements beyond one’s control.

He said, “Currently medical setbacks have inhibited my active and full participation in the daily operations of ASCC and at this point in time must be addressed.”

He apologized for any inconvenience his departure may cause.

The president said he was “at a loss for words for no other reason than a profound sense of gratitude and appreciation for the hard work, trust and commitment that the faculty demonstrate on a  daily basis.”

He continued that he has been a blessed recipient of all their devotion towards the progression of both ASCC and the lives of the learners who enroll each year.

He added it has been a great joy and honor to work alongside individuals who exhibit incomparable integrity within their respective fields.

Dr. Galeai, who has been president of ASCC for about 6 years, said he leaves ASCC with confidence in the faculty’ s ability to forge ahead towards the common goal of developing life long learners.

Dr. Galeai leaves at a time when ASCC is trying to resolve three outstanding conditions for accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Commission,

ASCC has also struggled financially partly due to delays in receiving subsidies from ASG.
