Am Samoa Part of US Extradition Treaty with Tonga

There’s little involvement from the American Samoa authorities regarding negotiations for the extradition of murder fugitive Dean Jay Fletcher to Tonga, according to Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo Ale.

The AG explains that as an American territory, American Samoa is part of an extradition treaty between the United States and Tonga.

He said there has been no direct contact between the Tongan authorities and his office, and the extradition negotiations are between the US Government and the Kingdom of Tonga.

Talauega said the main concern for Fletcher’s presence in the territory, is that there’s no harm done to the public while he is here.

Fletcher is wanted for the murder of his wife, and escaped from prison in Vava’u, got on his yacht the Sea Oak and sailed here last week.

He is being held without bail for illegally entering and attempting to leave the territory without proper clearance.
