Eight surgeries was what the visiting veterinarians from Animal Balance and local organization, Alofa mo Meaola, and government and private sector partners were expecting on the first day of their free animal clinics yesterday.
But between 12 and 5 pm they had performed 22 surgeries.

This took place at the Fagatogo Pavilion where the free clinics will continue today.
Animal Balance has done three previous spay and neuter campaign in American Samoa mainly with dogs but the organization has received a grant to work on cats.
Director of Field Operations, Meredith Hippert, heads the 22 member team from Animal Balance.
