Pacific Sleep Care Opens in Matu’u

A new business, and the first of its kind in the territory, was officially opened at Matuu this morning.

The Pacific Sleep Care has a purpose: it’s to study a condition called sleep apnea, a disorder in which one experiences breathing of shallow breaths while sleeping.

Rev. Fouvale Asiata of the CCCAS, Matuu and Faganeanea said sleeping is not an option but a necessity that was mandated by God in the beginning of creation.

He said that it has been God’s intention and plan from the beginning for humanity and creation to live a balanced life, sleep is a critical element of living a healthy life.

General Manager and Business Development Officer, Mr. Ferdie Salvador shared his journey how sleep apnea brought him to American Samoa.

His condition has affected his relationships with not only his parents and in-laws but also his children and wife.

He would sleep anywhere any time until he decided to do an overnight research on sleep apnea.

Mr. Salvador said several government contributed to setting up Pacific Sleep Care and said the center provides an important service.

First Lady Cynthia Malala Moliga thanked the Department of Health in partnering with Pacific Sleep Care to provide this very important service to improve the quality of health care for our people and wished God’s blessing on everyone involved.
