Counselor Robert Toelupe of the VA Clinic says some parts of the Samoan way of life especially respect, obedience and not questioning influence how people deal with emotions.
Toelupe was speaking to parents and family members who have lost sons and daughters in the military. 
The occasion was a prayer breakfast for Gold Star Moms which was celebrated nationwide on Sunday.
Toelupe says the cultural norm is that you just accept, without question any situation.

Toelupe told the group the VA clinic offers counseling services from their office at the old Equator Restaurant at the Tradewinds Hotel.
