A woman’s complaint about people using her abandoned home in Tafuna to hang out led to the arrest of two men whom police say were using the house to smoke ice and have sex with young women.
Facing charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance , crystal methamphetamine, and possession of an unlicensed firearm is Ioane Sakapo, while Wayne Gasolo is charged with one count of possession of ice.
The government’s case is based on what police found at the abandoned home after the homeowner filed a complaint last Saturday about loud music, cars in an out at night and young girls hanging around her abandoned house.
She said a relative by the name of John Tu’upo was using the house but he had no right to be there.
That night police checked out the home.
Court filings say a white pick up truck was leaving as police arrived, and the driver was defendant Ioane Sakopo, also known as Inky.
Police said it looked like the defendant was trying to hide something in the back of the vehicle.
Inside the truck, officers found a handgun, a .22 caliber pistol handgun fully loaded, and a glass pipe containing a significant amount of brownish melted crystalline substance stuffed in a PVC pipe mounted on the speaker in the space cab of the truck.
Testing proved the substance to be ice.
During a search of the house, police said they found two plastic baggies with crystalline residue and two glass pipes with the same residue.
Police found defendant Wayne Gasolo in one of the bedrooms and he had on him a glass pipe with a crystalline substance inside.
Straws associated with ice use were also found, some containing what looked like and later proved to be ice.
Police also found three girls in the home.
Two identified as O.P. and T.U. both 18 said they were invited there by John Tu’upo and were told to have sex with him and other men in exchange for more drugs and money.
Bail for the two male defendants who were arrested at the scene is set at $10,000 bail.
