Some Government departments were out cleaning their adopted public and private schools today in preparation for the start of school on August 29.

Stores were busier than usual this week with orders placed by government departments of lumber, screen wire, paint and other building supplies.

At Pago Pago Elementary School staff were power washing, changing screen wires and even digging a trench around the school to stop flooding of the school during heavy rains, when a nearby stream is known to overflow.

The Department of Health’s Chief Compliance Officer Papalii Marion Fitisemanu says they’re doing the light maintenance work and any major repairs will be left to the School Maintenance Division of the Department of Public Works.

Asked about inspections of schools as was done prior to the opening of the last school year, Papalii says government departments have been instructed by Governor Lolo to get their adopted schools ready for the beginning of the new school year and he’s optimistic that there won’t be any hurdles to prevent schools from meeting the August 29.

Fagaitua High School, which is the adopted school of the Governor’s Office, got a make over earlier in the week.

The east side high school is hosting the governor and other guests attending the dedication of a new classroom building today.

The Iakina Seventh Day Academy at Iliili was getting a power wash from the Fire Division this morning.
