House Approves Hall for Tourism Board with 11-1 Vote

The House of Representatives has confirmed Roy Hall Jr as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau.

The secret vote was 11-1, with eight faipules absent.

The House had confirmed Hall in the last session however he was rejected by the Senate.

Governor Lolo Moliga resubmitted Hall’s nomination last week.

The confirmation hearing for Hall held earlier was attended by only five House members: Acting Speaker Fetu Fetui Jr and Representatives Vesi Talalelei Fautanu Jr., Puleleiite Li’amatua Tufele Jr., Lavea F. Mauga, and Meauta Lauoi Mageo.

Mageo told Hall the House of Representatives will not question his qualifications to serve as a board member for the tourism agency…they will always pass him unlike the Senate.

Hall was asked why the reigning Miss American Samoa Suluga Taliau is not appearing on American Samoa bill boards and promotional materials .

Representatives said the Tourism Office need to be more proactive in promoting her and getting her involved in local events.

Rep. Puleleiite said the territory’s ambassador should be groomed for that role. They must be outgoing and be used to being In the public eye

Other suggestions were for Miss American Samoa to be the face that promotes issues that are of critical importance to the well-being of the people of American Samoa.

The Manu’a lawmakers urged that in the remaining months of Miss Taliau’s reign as Miss American Samoa, they wanted to see her photo on billboards.

Hall said he will try his to carry out their wishes and thanked them for their confidence in confirming him as a member of the board of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau.
