
2,300 and counting. That’s the net total of myna birds trapped and put to sleep so far by Susannah Saveedra Cruz and her network of trappers.
They have their traps all over the island and one village Leone has come on full force to help eradicate the winged creatures which have wreaked havoc on on plants and, fruits.
At a recent workshop which was supported by the Catholic priest in Leone, Fr. Kolio Tumanuvao, villagers were taught how to make the traps.
Cruz says there are now 31 active trappers and they have 34 traps around the island.
