Waiting for Cyclone Amos to Clear

6:20 am Saturday: At day break, as I wait for the tail or whatever part of Amos body is expected to whip American Samoa, I look outside to see a tree blocking my driveway.

Leaves are strewn all over the yard.

It’s now raining…I could hear birds chirping.

My two dogs are huddled on the porch, not making a sound.

It has been a sleepless night trying to keep everyone abreast of the latest movements of Amos.

That’s true also for our  Southseas Broadcasting Inc. “Amos watch” team, Joey Cummings and John Raynar (he should get met certification for his weather reporting).

In between translating and recording reports for V103 Radio and updating talanei, I and my 14-year old grandson were storing away things in the house that could easily blow away.

And putting out empty coolers to collect the rain water in case the power goes off and the water pumps are down.

The man of the house used to prepare all of that while I work but now I have to step up to the plate.

And the rain is coming down heavily now.

The elderly say that’s a good sign, it means the storm has blown away.

Waiting for Mase Akapo Akapo of the National Weather Service to confirm that in his latest report on KVZK-TV.
