The head of the Catholic Church in American Samoa is urging everyone to make someone’s Easter special this year especially for the sick and the elderly.

In his Easter message, Bishop Petelo Brown says the washing of the disciples feet, the Cross of Calvary and the empty tomb are our Christian images of Easter.

He said with great joy we once again celebrate the greatest feast of the Christian calendar as we recall that Jesus died and rose from the dead that we might be free.

Bishop Brown points out however that the washing of the feet at the last Supper starkly remind us that for us, there can be no resurrection without service.

As He said to His disciples, ’go now and do the same to others.’

As we pray and give thanks this Easter for the gift of life from Jesus, Bishop Brown said lets us never forget our baptism commitment.

A command from God to follow Him authentically. Not just in words but in christian service for others.

Citing famous writer Mark Twain’s popular quote ‘actions speak louder than words…..but not nearly as often,’ the Catholic leader said we often talk more than we act.

Bishop Brown adds, “Make someone’s Easter special this year especially our elderly and the sick by bring them the joy of Christ, not just in words but in loving service.

Let us pray for the people of American Samoa, our church and community leaders, Governor Lolo and Lady Cynthia, Lieutenant Governor Lemanu and faletua Pohakalani and the Government of American Samoa.”

The Catholic leader wishes all residents a happy and holy Easter.
