During the Democratic Caucus on Tuesday, KHJ News noticed several government vehicles in the parking lot of the Veterans Memorial Center in Tafuna where the caucus was held.

At least half a dozen directors participated at various times during the caucus.

Last month, Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo Ale briefed directors about the dos and don’t of political campaign activities during working hours as well as the new election law pertaining to display of political signs, and a ban in the distribution of food on Election Day. ‘

We asked the Attorney General about the use of government vehicles by ASG employees to participate in political events.

At the Democratic caucus, supporters of the three candidates that local Democrats chose form campaigned while the candidates, Hilary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Rocky de la Fuenta gave campaign speeches, before members cast ballots.

Talauega said from his own personal opinion directors and employees should refrain from using government property when participating in campaign and election activities.

He said he will have to look at the specific statute relating to campaigning and political activities but if he was in a similar situation he would not use a government vehicle to attend the caucus.
