ASG New Minimum Wage Is $5, Up from $4.41

Director of Human Resources, Le’i Sonny Thompson announced good news for entry level employees of the ASG workforce during last week’s cabinet meeting.

Le’i informed directors that the new ASG pay scale with a higher minimum wage are now in effect.

The new starting minimum wage of ASG is $5 per hour, up from $4.41 per hour. and the Director calculated this starting rate would yield an annual salary of at least $10,400.

Many ASG employees whose annual salary was below $10,000 should now see a change in their pay checks.

The Director proudly pointed out that the ASG minimum wage is better than what the federal government has endorsed for American Samoa, $4.88 per hour.

Le’i explained that the new pay scale is being used to determine increments for ASG employees. The freeze on increments was lifted last year,

The last time the minimum wage for ASG was increased was back in 2003,

The governor appointed a Task Force to come up with a minimum living wage that takes into consideration the high cost of living.
Members include directors and officials of the Budget Office, Commerce, Governor’s Office, Treasury and Human Resources.

Le’i encouraged directors to provide information for their employees so their pay can be adjusted according to the new ASG pay scale.
