April 10, 2025 - John Raynar talks with Dr. Erica Sipili.
With measles cases spreading in the United States, the Department of Health is reminding parents to make sure that their children receive the MMR vaccine. As of April 3 the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a total of 607 confirmed measles cases in 22 jurisdictions.
Dr. Erica Sipili Medical Director at DOH says vaccination is the only protection against the virus that causes measles.
DOH is also getting the word out about dengue fever. One student has died from dengue in Fiji and there’s a current outbreak of dengue in Fiji and also in Tonga.
Dengue is spread by mosquitoes and symptoms include a fever, headache, muscle bone or joint pain, nausea and vomiting.
Residents are urged to get rid of containers that collect water, the breeding ground for mosquitoes.
