Brain Health Fairs Coming to American Samoa

Dr. Justina Tavana, faculty member at Brigham Young University, is inviting the community to take part in upcoming Brain Health Fairs designed to improve understanding of memory, thinking, and overall brain health in Pacific Islanders.

The fairs will take place on:

  • Friday, August 22 at Fatuoaiga Hall
  • Monday, August 25 to Wednesday, August 27 at DWYA in Pago

At each event, participants will spend one to two hours answering questions about their health, taking memory and thinking tests, providing a blood sample, and enrolling in a health registry. All participants will be compensated for their time.

The fairs are open to Pacific Islanders aged fifty and older who did not participate in last year’s events. Those who joined in 2023 are encouraged to invite their friends and family to participate.

“By coming to these Brain Health Fairs, you’re helping researchers find better ways to diagnose, treat, and ultimately cure Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias,” said Dr. Tavana. “This work will protect the health of our Pacific people for generations to come.”
