Police suspect that repeat escapee Joeita Faaaliga is responsible for the burglary of Tutuila Store last week.

They say the break-in occurred the same night that Faaaliga, who has escaped from the Territorial Correctional Facility more than half a dozen times since the beginning of this year, was discovered missing from the TCF.

Police are going though surveillance camera footage to give a positive identification but they believe Faaaliga is responsible.

A bench, which was found propped up against the TCF wall, was apparently used by the infamous escapee to climb back into the correctional facility.

He’s suspected of taking the bench from the Territorial Administration on Aging Office (TAOA)  compound, which is right next to the TCF. A hole found at the back of the TCF is believed to be Faaaliga’s escape route.

KHJ News has asked for an official comment from the Lemanu Talauega Administration concerning the regular escape of inmates from the TCF.

There’s been a noticeable increase since the TCF was transferred from the Department of Public Safety to the new Department of Corrections.

The prison warden has been quoted in court filings saying, on some shifts, just two correctional officers guard 300 or more inmates.
