The size of the new hospital to be built at Lions Park will depend on the services it will offer, says Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua.

Following the visit earlier this month by representatives of Architects Hawaii Ltd., the company thats doing the design, DOH, the lead agency for the project has been in regular contact with the company as it completes the architectural plans for the new facility.

Motusa says it may end up that instead of a 40-bed facility, the hospital will have only 30 to 35 beds. “It all depends on the services it will provide,” he said.

The designs are to be completed before the end of this month.

In his meeting with the AHL reps, Governor Lemanu urged that they fast track the design plans for the new hospital.

AHL has said that it’s working with two global leaders Jacobs and WSP, in the design, engineering and delivery of the health facilities for the territory’s new hospital.

Hospital projects that AHL lists as having been designed, engineered and built by these two companies are: Hoag Hospital, Scripps Health, Children’s Hospital of Orange County City of Hope, Irvine and Duarte Campuses, and UC Davis Health.
