There’s been no new information from the Department of Public Safety regarding the discovery of drugs in a police vehicle that was at the ASCO auto shop in Malaloa for servicing.
Deputy Commissioner Terry Letuli said, in response to KHJ News questions, that there has been no further development in the investigation.
The police vehicle in which the drugs were found on March 1, a black Toyota Tacoma truck, was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. It was taken to the auto shop for servicing in the morning and picked up later that afternoon.
But the drugs only became public knowledge after photos were posted on Facebook, the following day. The photos showed 10 small baggies of what looked like crystal methamphetamine. Police said that ASCO Motors never alerted police about the drug find when the vehicle was released after it was serviced.
Employees of ASCO Motors were taken in for questioning but no charges or arrests were made.
Letuli said, this morning, the police investigation has not produced any new information and the case is unsolved.
Asked about another case where cut up straws, commonly associated with the use of crystal methamphetamine, were found in a KVZK-TV vehicle, the deputy commissioner said that there was not enough residue in the straws to confirm this was a controlled substance or to help with the investigation.
