Two men face drug charges after police chase

Filipo Shai and Fogavai Anetere’a appeared in District Court this week, on drug charges, after a police pursuit of their vehicle, this past Sunday in Ottoville.

According to the government’s case, when police pulled over a vehicle and asked for a driver’s license, the driver reached for the glove compartment then suddenly sped off.

The two defendants were among three passengers in the vehicle besides the driver.

A chase pursued in backroads in Ottoville and the pursued truck came to a stop when it hit the side of a home.

Three men in the vehicle then ran off.

Defendant Fogavai, who was sitting behind the front passenger, was stuck inside and police nabbed him while he was trying to escape.

Police found, on Fogavai, a small black pouch containing eight cut up straws and two glass pipes, all containing crystalline substances, as well as $170.

Officers managed to catch Filipo and found on him a bag that contained a small clear container with four stamp size baggies containing crystalline substance, a glass pipe with the same crystalline substance, a small torch and three lighters.

The driver and the remaining passenger, whose identities are unknown, got away.

All of the crystalline substances that were found tested positive for methamphetamine.
