
The rate of deaths from heart disease in American Samoa is twice as high, as that of the US and other developed countries. One of the aims of Heart Month is to reverse this statistic through awareness and better case management for those with unhealthy hearts.
Cardiologist, Dr. Eric Carter, an LDS missionary at LBJ Hospital says, deaths from heart disease can be prevented.

Dr. Carter described the response to Heart Month events as overwhelming and he says, it has truly been a community wide effort.
