Samoa Airways was forced to extend contracts and to reappoint seven current managers, due to the lack of applicants for the airline’s managerial positions—which were advertised last September.
Interim Chief Executive Officer for Samoa Airways, Fauoo Fatu Tielu said that the managerial positions advertised, haven’t been filled; and the State-owned company has opted to use existing managers.
The vacancies were for managers of finance, sales and marketing, airport services, engineering, quality assurance, flight operations, human resources, administration and an internal auditor.
Fauoo said, they didn’t receive top applicants for the positions and the engineering manager was re-appointed, because he was the only applicant.
“We haven’t appointed an internal auditor, we are waiting for finance manager to be filled first, but the problem is no one applied or the applicants didn’t have enough experience…”
He explained that it is hard to find qualified people for the positions, especially an engineer in aviation, so the current occupant, who is a Fijian national, is contracted to the position.
