The Eye Clinic at LBJ Hospital is more capable, now than ever, with the addition of new donated equipment.

The Round House Foundation, a philanthropic organization based in Oregon, has provided the eye clinic with a new argon laser machine valued at over $70,000.

The machine will allow LBJ doctors to perform advanced eye treatment locally. The laser therapy is helpful for those with glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, or some retinal bleeds.

Kathy Deggendorfer, trustee and representative of the Round House Foundation, presented the new machine at the LBJ Eye Clinic on Monday, in the presence of hospital staff and management. She spoke with KHJ News after the ceremony.

Deggendorfer is here on her third trip to American Samoa, as part of a team from Oregon Health and Science University, and has made significant donations to the eye clinic on prior trips.

An artist by trade, she provided art activities for students who needed advanced eye screenings during outreach in area schools, this week. When asked about her impressions, she expressed her appreciation of the beauty of American Samoa.
