The territory’s US certified veterinarian is contemplating ending her contract early, and returning to her family in the US.

Dr. Barbara Kahl, is the first US certified veterinarian to serve the territory in about a decade and has just completed the first year of a two year contract.

Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua said, he is aware of the vet wanting to end her contract earlier. He said, one of the reasons is that she is here alone while her husband is still in the mainland. But he let on that the vet is not happy with some of her work conditions, including ASG’s drawn out procurement process. He said, the vet has ordered urgently needed supplies and equipment and paid them with her credit card and the process of reimbursement is long.

He hopes to get a decision from Dr. Kahl, who’s currently on holiday, when she returns next week. In the meantime, he said DOH is in contact with possible replacements from the US.

DOH hired a veterinarian from Fiji, who has been working with Dr. Kahl for the last few months.

Motusa said that a US certified vet is required for the ordering of medical supplies for the clinic.
