
Former US Senator and former Governor of Alaska, Frank Hughes Murkowski, and his wife Nancy, were special guests for the inaugural celebration of the anniversary of the first appointed Governor of American Samoa, Uifa’atali Peter Tali Coleman.
Uifaatali was appointed Governor of American Samoa from 1956-1961. He became the first popularly elected governor of American Samoa in 1978 and served three terms as the territory’s chief executive.
The Coleman-Eisenhower Day was celebrated at Sadies by the Sea with a luncheon this afternoon.
Addressing the small gathering of guests, Murkoswki said he understands that this is a political season, but the Coleman-Eisenhower Day is not a political event.
He shared some of the significant links between American Samoa and the State of Alaska when Coleman was governor.

The event was attended by a group of senators and representatives friends and relatives of Congresswoman Aumua Amata Radewagen, daughter of Uifaatali Coleman.
Rev. Fa’atauva’a Talamoni of the Pago Pago CCCAS, who was born and raised in Alaska when Murkowski was governor gave the invocation.
Eastern District Governor and Chairman of the Coleman-Eisenwhower event, Alo Dr. Paul Stevenson welcomed the guests and shared some history of the Coleman- Eisenwhower era .
Frank Murkowski’s daughter Senator Lisa Murkowski now chairs the same committee that her father chaired, and at the same time Uifaatali’s daughter Aumua Amata serves on the same committee in the House.
