Samoa Police have confirmed arresting a 17-year-old seen pushing a shopping cart during the Toa Samoa supporters parade, last Saturday, but not for taking part in the parade.

Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga told a media conference on Wednesday, that the young man was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant.

He added, no one was arrested during the supporters road rally.

The video of the young man pushing a younger boy in the cart, holding the Samoan flag went viral, turning him into the poster boy of the Toa Samoa supporters everywhere.

News of his arrest did not sit well with fans and supporters, who quickly took to social media with allegations of strong arm police actions.

“Police were just doing their job because this 17-year-old had an outstanding warrant of arrest, for him for failing to appear in court for offenses he was previously charged with,” said the Acting Commissioner.

He was arrested on Monday and appeared in the Youth Court on Wednesday.
