
Of the 11 proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot, less than half received majority “yes votes”.
All told five proposed amendments to the Constitution of American Samoa were approved:
- Giving Swains a vote in the House of Representatives: 55% voted yes
- An impeachment process of the Governor and Lt. Governor: 61% voted yes
- Change the name from Government of American Samoa to American Samoa Government: 58% voted yes
- Changing the name Mauputasi to Maoputasi: 59% voted yes
- Changing the name Leasina to Leasina ma Aitulagi: 55% voted yes
The proposed amendments that were rejected:
- Allowing the governor to appoint chief and associate justices: 66% voted no
- Removing power from the Secretary of Interior to change High Court decisions: 60% voted no
- Removing power from Secretary of Interior on overriding the Governor’s veto: 62% voted no
- Reapportioning the House of Representatives to add one additional seat each to Ituau and Tuala-uta: 51% voted no
- Adding the village of Malaeimi to Ituau: 52% voted no
- Adding 2 senators for Manu’a: 62% voted no

The amendments which were approved will be submitted to the Secretary of the Interior, then to the US Congress for final approval.
