Today, StarKist Co., parent company of StarKist Samoa, announced that Mr. Chae-Ung Um has been named the new Co-President and CEO, StarKist Co.
Mr. Um joins StarKist from LG Electronics where he was Corporate Senior Vice President, Procurement Strategy, Digital Procurement Transformation & General Procurement.
Mr. Um’s first day will be November 1, 2022, and he will be President and CEO, StarKist, on January 1, 2023.
Mr. Andrew Choe, who was appointed to the helm of Starkist Co. in November 2014, will continue to serve as President and CEO until December 31, 2022; and will work with Mr. Um to ensure a successful transition through the end of the year.
During Choe‘s last visit to the territory in August, he was quoted in a press release from the Governor’s Office saying,
“StarKist is blessed to be here in American Samoa. We have been here for 59 years, and we look forward to being here to celebrate 100 years. At one point, American Samoa was the number one Tuna Canning Factory globally. We want to help American Samoa get back to that status.”
Mr. Choe also requested an increase in guest workers from Samoa to help meet the market’s demands and the tuna industry’s future outlook.
