A man is in custody at the Territorial Correctional Facility awaiting his next court appearance on one charge of 1st-degree burglary, one count of attempted rape and one count of 1st-degree sexual abuse.
Samoa News reports, the man is also charged with one count of trespass and one count of private peace disturbance.
Police records indicate a distress call was made to the Tafuna Police Substation on 30 July 2022, by a woman claiming her 16-year-old niece had been raped and requested assistance.
The woman and her niece were taken to the substation for further questioning, while some officers went to the defendant’s house to try and find him.
The aunt told police, she had returned home from a prayer meeting and found her niece crying outside their house and told her about what had happened.
Police found the defendant’s wife in their home, who told them her husband was asleep inside.
They then took the couple to the station for further questioning, where the defendant denied the allegations made by the girl.
The girl told police that she had hit the man on the face with her laptop; they had observed that he had a cut over his eye while questioning him, and were told that he had fallen over and cut himself.
