Assistant Secretary of Interior arrives tonight

The Office of Insular Affairs, Department of Interior has confirmed that Assistant Secretary of the Interior Carmen Cantor will be arriving tonight on her first official trip to the territory.

She is to meet with Governor Lemanu and Lt Governor Talauega, Fono leaders and the Chief Justice.

She is to address the opening of the Constitutional Convention on Monday. A visit to the StarKist cannery is also planned.

OIA Spokesperson Tanya Joshua says Cantor will leave from Honolulu this afternoon. She will be accompanied by OIA Director of Policy Basil Ottley, who will be here for the whole ConCon.

Cantor is a former U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federated States of Micronesia.

Previously, she led several State Department bureaus and offices as Director. She has lived on islands, including Micronesia and she grew up in Puerto Rico.

She earned her B.A. at the University of Puerto Rico, and her M.A. at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.

Assistant Secretary Cantor is to depart the territory Monday night.
