The Territorial Bank of American Samoa says it will conspider giving loan customers assistance.

Workers who have not received a paycheck or whose earnings have been reduced because of Code Red restrictions are worried about not being able to pay loans, utility bills and other obligations.

Asked if the government owned bank would give customers a break,
TBAS CEO and President Dave Buehler said, “We are always open to consider a request by the borrower due to documented impact.”

All but two of the bank’s 46 employees are reporting to work during Code Red.

Since it’s a government bank we asked if the workers, like the rest of ASG, are paid even if they’re not working.

Buehler said,”If a staff member does not report to work, they will not be paid unless approved for leave and they have the accrued hours available.”

TBAS is limiting 10 customers in the bank at a time and enforcing masks and distancing;.

It’s currently closing at 2pm but Buehler says they will go back to 3pm closing starting Monday barring any changes in the code.

TBAS is encouraging customers to use direct deposit, online banking, Mastercard debit card and its TUPE VAVE ATMs.
