Inmate gets five years probation for 2019 prison break

high-court

One of four inmates who escaped from the Territorial Correctional Facility in October of 2019 was sentenced today to Five years probation.

Gabriel Tinae changed his plea from not guilty to guilty to the charge of escape from confinement.

An early morning head count on October 19th, 2019 showed that five inmates were missing from their cell, #18 in Bravo Unit.

Four, including Tinae, had their cases bound over to High Court but charges against a fifth inmate were dismissed during a preliminary examination in District Court, due to lack of evidence.

The court gave Tinae the same sentence as his co-defendants who have already been sentenced, five years in jail, suspended on five years probation.
