Caretaker Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi is calling on young journalists and social media bloggers to resign from their jobs.

He accused them of missing the point of a remark he made on Wednesday about the general appearances of some of young lawyers appearing in court these days.

On his weekly program with TV3Samoa, Tuilaepa said that senior members of the Samoa Law Society should help monitor the way the new legal professionals dressed.

He is quoted as saying young lawyers were turning out in bikini and mini skirts which has been interpreted as insulting and sexist towards women.

Speaking on Radio 2AP yesterday, Tuilaepa said he was speaking specifically about the dress sense of young female lawyers.

He said all prpfessions have a dress code e.g. airline crews and nurses, but unfortunately his comment had been missed completely by reports in the Samoa Observer and other independent media.

He also referred to social media bloggers like E.T. LIVE based in New Zealand making erroneous statements.

Tuilaepa said he doesn’t really mind people like E.T. making these wrong statements because they don’t know the deeper meaning of what he is saying.

He added that if reporters are not able to do their jobs properly they should resign.

He said he was speaking specifically about two female lawyers who are always appearing on television who turn out with untidy, unkempt hair and wearing mini skirts.
