A tropical disturbance is responsible for heavy rain and gusty winds we’ve had all day. The system was located about 100 miles south southwest of Tutuila around 4 pm Saturday.

According to Meteorologist Joe LaPlante of the National Weather Service, winds associated with this system are not strong. For today winds have averaged 20 to 25 miles per hour with gusts of 35 to 49 knots.

The tropical disturbance is moving away from American Samoa and by tomorrow morning winds should decrease but expect rain to continue.

Most roads have been flooded. Between midnight and 4 pm the rain gauge at Tafuna recorded 3.21 inches of rain.

A flash flood warning is in effect until 6 pm, a flood watch is extended until Sunday afternoon and a wind advisory remains.

A high surf advisory and a small craft advisory are also in effect.
