Chief Procurement Officer Dr Oreta Mapu-Crichton has resigned to run for American Samoa’s seat in the US Congress.
At her final cabinet meeting on Friday, Dr Mapu-Crichton, who has been CPO for the last 8 years, said when she talked with Governor Lolo Moliga the day before, he tried to persuade her to stay until the end of their Administration.
But she said she remembered Governor Lolo’s advice not to be afraid to make her own decisions.

Governor Lolo Moliga said the role of the delegate to congress is not to seek money for bridges but to be the conduit between the territory and Washington DC.
He believes leaders are chosen by God not based on their promises but for their love and willingness to serve the people.
He said we only exist and are in these leadership positions because of our people.
The governor advised Dr. Crichton that if she makes the people her focus everything else will fall in place. He added that this same advice is applicable to all those running for public office including Lt. Governor Lemanu.
