In his message for Memorial Day, Governor Lolo Moliga reflected on the sacrifices of men and women in uniform who gave their lives so we can live in an environment of freedom.
“When we openly express our opinions on any subject against the government or its leaders, we should remember those whose noble and self-sacrificing deeds accorded us this privilege,” he urges.
“When we achieve great successes …because the United States is a land of opportunity, remember our soldiers who gave their lives so the United States can continue to be the beacon of hope to all who seek freedom from oppression looking for opportunities to utilize their talents and resources.
“When we raise our voices in prayer thanking our merciful and benevolent God for His continued blessings over American Samoa given our Coronavirus free status along with the millions of dollars poured into our territory to allow us to combat the deadly effects of this killing nemesis…let us remember the souls of all our loved ones who perished in all war theaters along with perpetual; installation of peace in the hearts of families who have carried the pain and suffering of losing those dear to their hearts for without their sacrifices, we would not have received all these blessings.”
He continued, “When we breathe each day the air of freedom, enjoying the environment of unmolested liberty, allowing all of us the freedom to think, speak and act as we choose as long as we do not offend the freedom and rights of others, cherish the value of expecting to be treated fairly and with dignity, and able to embrace opportunities for education economic success, political involvement and a fulfilling life, let us not wait until Memorial Day to remember and commemorate their sacrifices, and to continually keep our lips our sense of gratitude and the gratefulness for the ultimate sacrifice that they have made.
On behalf of Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and his wife Ella, along with First Lady Cynthia Malala Moliga and their families, the leaders and people of American Samoa, Governor Lolo extended to the spouses, children and families profound gratitude “to all the heroes of our nation and territory of American Samoa who have made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives so we can live in freedom, peace and happiness.”
