The NZ off-island referral program is still open, but only for emergencies and under strict COVID-19 related guidelines set by NZ.

Medicaid Director Sandra King Young reported at the cabinet meeting today that a New Zealand air ambulance was on its way to uplift a patient from the territory.

Medicaid received a request for the referral from the LBJ Hospital Wednesday and routed it to the Coronavirus Task Force for approval; Governor Lolo signed off on the request.

Governor Lolo said he wanted to let the public know that the referral program is still open as he has received 17 emails from residents who are off island, saying it’s not right for him to stop HA flights because we have many patients that need to go off island for treatment.
