Wholesalers, supermarkets, construction companies and the cannery have been getting daily updates on the estimated arrival date of the Cap Papatele, the freighter that developed problems while on its way to the South Pacific in January and had to return to Honolulu for repairs.
The vessel is operated by Hamburg Sud.
According to today’s advisory from the company, following successful sea trials Cap Papatele has departed Honolulu and is now on her way to Apia and Pago Pago.
Her tentative arrival date is March 17.
Once cargo is unloaded the Cap Papatele will leave the service and will be replaced by another freighter the Fesco Askold.
A revised schedule for Fesco Askold will be distributed shortly.
Importers have expressed concern that perishable goods on the Cap Papatele like fruits and vegetable may be spoiled by the time the vessel arrives in port.
