DOH adjusts policy for direct travel from Tonga

In the latest travel advisory from  he Department of Health issued today there’s a change in travel from Tonga to American Samoa .
Earlier DOH had announced that all travelers from Tonga have to route through Samoa then be quarantined there for 14 days ,and  get a  health clearance three days before arriving in American Samoa.
In its latest advisory effective today, DOH says US passport holders and American Samoa residents returning from Tonga will not be required to stay in Samoa for 14 days and acquire a health exam.
But travelers including US passport holders and American Samoa permanent residents, transiting through Tonga, will be subject to the following:
  • Proof of MM R vaccination 14 days before entry,
  • Spend 14 days in Tonga and
  • acquire a health exam only from the Ministry of Health 3 days before entry in American Samoa.
There are no changes to DOH’s  Monday advisory for travelers from Samoa.
That is US  passport holders and American Samoa residents traveling from here to Samoa then returning , and not travel anywhere else, are not required to stay in Samoa for 14 days and acquire a health exam.
But those who transit in Samoa, after traveling to other countries, and then return here, will be required to spend 14 days in Samoa and obtain a health exam only from the Samoa Ministry of Health three days before arrival in American Samoa.
A 30-day processing period is required for all entry permits to American Samoa.
However entry permits for essential services such as health care workers and engineers in the government or private sector will be given special provision from the 30-day requirement, But they must acquire a health clearance 3 days before entry
Travelers from a country with Coronavirus cases must remain in an unaffected country for 14 days and obtain a medical clearance before entering American Samoa.
Symptoms of Coronavirus include fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
DOH strongly recommends that all persons intending to travel to any counrty affected by the 2019 novel Coronavirus postpone their travel arrangements unless necessary.
As of today there are two people in quarantine at the Leone Health Center which has been designated as the quarantine facility.  They are a Chinese man and Taiwanese woman who live in the territory but had traveled to China and Taiwan respectively,  both Coronavirus affected countries.
