The Environmental Health Division of the Department of Health strikes again.
This time health inspectors have cracked down on seafood brought from Samoa and sold locally without health and business permits.
Last month health inspectors came across popular sea delicacies like sea (sea worm) and loli, (sea cucumber), being sold locally under the label evenisamoa.
Yesterday they confirmed through the Department of Commerce that the seafood is being sold without a business license or a health permit.
DOH said there has been an increase number of food and cooked food being brought
via flights from Apia which are being sold locally and that they are being sold without going through the process of obtaining a business license and health permit.
Head of the Environmental Health Division at DOH, John Fuimaono, has ordered the business that was bringing in the seafood to halt sale of their products. They’re only allowed to bring in eafood for personal consumption.
DOH is also advising the public when purchasing such items to please check for a business license or health permit.
If there is no business license or health permit you may be at risk consuming unsafe products as they have not passed inspection by the Department of Health and there is no way of knowing how they were prepared or the ingredients they contain.
