The Fonuea Restaurant which operates from containers behind the AP Lutali Executive Office Building is to be reopened, if not yesterday then today.
Director of Health-Motusa Tuileama Nua told KHJ News yesterday that all that was remaining for the restaurant to reopen for business was a letter from the director of Administrative Services to state that the EOB bathrooms are available for use by customers of the restaurant.
When KHJ News talked with the director yesterday afternoon he said he was expecting the letter yesterday or early this morning then the restaurant will reopen.
He said DOH is giving the owners two weeks to rectify other discrepancies such as the license for the business specifying that it will be a mobile eatery and lack of hot water at the restaurant.
The director didn’t mention what is being done about the cigarette smoke coming from the smoking area for EOB employees , which was the issue that someone reported to DOH and resulted in an inspection three weeks ago, resulting in the closure of the restaurant.
Fonuea, which is owned by Director of Human Resources-Eseneiaso Liu and her husband, Fepuleai Siaki Liu, opened in January.
ASG did not advertise for proposals to lease the government property or invite offers from restaurant owners through competitive bidding.
