KVZK-TV will resume filming church services for Sunday evening broadcasts out in the respective churches preparing the services, and there’ll be no charge.
This was the message that Director of Public Information KVZK TV Tuimavave Tauapai Laupola delivered at separate hearings of the House and Senate yesterday morning.
The government television station decided some time ago to require church groups preparing Sunday evening prayer services to come to their Utulei studios to record the Sunday evening programs.
Any organization wanting to have their sauniga lotu filmed in their church had to pay.
This has been a sore point with many lawmakers who claim that their church ministers have approached them to do something to change this policy.
None has been as persistent in raising the matter than Rep Gafatasi Afalava.
Appearing before a House hearing yesterday morning followed by a Senate hearing, Tuimavave said that the government TV station will now resume recording Sunday church services in the churches preparing the services and there will be no charge.
Pressed why they stopped doing this in the first place, Tuimavave said they used to record on Sunday mornings and broadcast the service in the evening.
He said if there’s a fault in the recording, its not possible to arrange for the church group to re do the recording and have it ready for that evening’s broadcast.
On another matter, Senator Magalei Logovi’i asked why the government station doesn’t film and report on Fono hearings.
He said every time the Fono mentions an increase in their salaries, the public reacts and says the Fono doesn’t deserve a pay raise because they don’t do any work.
Magalei said senators are at work early in the morning for hearings but the TV news doesn’t show this.
He said the only news about the Fono that goes out to the public is by KHJ News and Samoa News but the government station should broadcast news of the Fono at work.
