
The overall winner of the 2019 Territorial Science Fair, South Pacific Academy senior Da In Myung intends to continue her study on the effects of fruit flies on one of Samoas’s favorite staples, the breadfruit.
In last year’s Science Fair, Da was second overall and in her sophomore year she placed third.
She says because breadfruit is such an important food in the territory, she wants to find out more about whether the fruitfly larvae found in breadfruit can harm people.

Second runner up was Carl Daniel Balauro of Faasao Marist and 3rd runner up was Gloria Park of Pacific Horizon School.
Georgina Alofa of Manumalo Academy was 4th, Akenese Saleutogi of Tafuna High School was 5th, Angela Chen of Pacific Horizon School placed 6th and Victor Chen also of Pacific Horizon School placed 7th.
The top six winners of the high school division head to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona from May 12-17.
