The family of a young man whose dead body was kept at the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital morgue in Savaii were forced to bury their son early after a refrigeration malfunction caused two bodies to decompose.

A source at the hospital confirmed to KHJ News that the problem was not discovered until Sunday evening.

“Apparently the malfunction happened about Thursday and management were not told about it until Sunday,” said the source who didnt want to be named.

He confirmed that a second body, that of a woman, was transfered to the only private morgue on Savaii.

“They tried to do the same with the young man, but it was too far gone,” said the source.

The young man, described as “a police case”, had apparently died from drowning.
