The Lee Auditorium is to undergo major renovations and will not be available for awhile from the beginning of the new year.
According to Director of Commerce Fuiavailili Keniseli Lafaele, the current contractor for the Lee Auditorium has reported and DOC staff has confirmed the deteriorating state of the building.
He said the more the facility is used, the more wear and tear to the building “and it is noticeable.”
“A renovation is needed before the use of the facility posts a health hazard to the community”, said the director.
At this time DOC is trying to secure funds for the rehabilitation of the public facility.
An application will be made to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which was the same source of funding for the Lee Auditorium renovations in 2009.
Asked if a contractor will be selected through the bidding process or uif Public Works will do the renovations, Fuiavailili said they have not yet decided but will make a decision once funding has been secured.
We asked for a scope of work and the director said all they know is that it will be a major rehabilitation. The cost of the project would be known once the scope of work is determine.
Due to the renovations, the Lee Auditorium will be closed beginning from the start of the new year and would not be reopened until about July,
