A NZ Defence Force Hercules aircraft is scheduled to arrive over the weekend to transport the remains of NZ Navy Mechanic Engineer Russel James Moore home .
Moore was only 19 when he was killed in an accident here in 1956.
His resting place has been the Satala cemetery but he is being taken home as part of a project by the NZ government to repatriate military men and women buried abroad.
While Moore does not have any Maori blood, the NZ Defence Force is following Maori protocols and traditions for his return home.
Chief Petty Officer Nghwiri Walker explained the Maori rituals which were performed at Moore’s graveside this morning.
